How it all started
Ultra Japan is one of Ultra Worldwide's most successful ventures. Its story began when Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes established the Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 1999. Pioneering the electronic dance music sound and covering genres like techno, trance and house, it's one of the most influential events of its kind. Ultra Worldwide was a natural progression as global demand for high-quality EDM events grew. The first Ultra Japan attracted over 42,000 people to the Tokyo Odaiba Ultra Park in 2014. The two-day festival had three stages, the Main Stage, Ultra Worldwide Arena and the UMF Radio Stage and featured Hardwell, Darren Emmerson, Fedde Le Grande, UMEK and Kaskade.
The steady growth of Ultra Japan
By the second edition in 2015 saw Ultra Japan transformed into a three-day event with the same three stages for the first two and the addition of the Resistance stage for the final day. Over 90,000 fans descended on Tokyo and the Odaiba Ultra Park for live acts like Pendulum and top DJs like David Guetta, John Digweed and Sasha. By 2016, Ultra Japan was a fixture on the dance music calendar, attracting headline acts and DJs like deadmaus5, Tiesto, Takkyu Ishino, Dubfire and Knife Party and an audience of over 120,000.
