Tower of Power's 50th anniversary tour dates and concerts
Tower of Power celebrated their 50th anniversary as a group in 2018 while they simultaneously released their 25th album, Soul Side of Town. Tower of Power members and hits
Tower of Power was formed in 1968 out of Oakland, California. They have seen a multitude of highly talented musicians and have performed all sorts of music including (but not limited to) soul, jazz, funk, R&B, and pop. The founding member, Emilio Castillo, is also a composer and saxophonist. Other veteran members of the now 10-piece band include Garibaldi, Kupka “Doc”, Prestia and current members are Jerry Cortez, Roger Smith, Tom Politzer, trumpeters Adolfo Acosta and Sal Cracciolo, and lead singers Ray Greene and Marcus Scott. Castilla and Kupka formed the original Tower of Power, which was originally known as the Motowns. In 1970 the group sign a record deal and released their debut album, East Bay Grease, with songs composed and written by both Castillo and Kupka. Their second album, Bump City proved to be even more popular with hits like “You’re Still a Yong Man”. But it was their third album, Tower of Power which moved up the charts and peaking at no. 1 on some!
In total, more than 60 musicians have taken part in the legendary Tower of Power band. During reunion and anniversary tours the group is known to bring old members up on the stage with them, making their live shows that much better.
