From Jamaica to the world
Sean Paul Francis Henriques, better known by his stage name Sean Paul, was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1973. He formally pursued music at the age of 21, starting his DJ and open mic stints at the local bar scene. His unique style made him stand out from the rest of his contemporaries, and by 2000, he was able to release his first studio album, ‘Stage One’, under a major label. The album was produced by Jeremy Harding and was released under VP/Universal Records. The album’s carrier single "Deport Them" peaked at number 86 in the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. In 2002, he released his second album, ‘Duty Rock’, which proved to be a massive success, winning the 46th Annual Grammy Awards in 2004. By 2014, he had already released six chart-topping albums. With hit after hit under his own name, Sean Paul also released successful collaborations with many big-name artists such as Beyoncé with the song "Baby Boy", which peaked at the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100, while his feature with Blu Cantrell’s remixed version of "Breathe" peaked at 70 on the charts.
