Formerly of The Jeff Beck Group and Faces
Born in London in 1945, Rod Stewart first showcased his signature gravelly tones in the 1960s as the lead vocalist of various bands including Steampacket, Shotgun Express, and The Jeff Beck Group, enjoying success on both sides of the Atlantic with the latter. Alongside Ronnie Wood, Stewart then joined the rock and roll outfit Faces while simultaneously pursuing a solo career with debut album ‘An Old Raincoat Won’t Ever Let You Down’. Stewart enjoyed his biggest commercial success in the 1970s, scoring five consecutive UK number one LPs, with ‘Every Picture Tells a Story’ also topping the Billboard charts. Unlike many of his peers, Stewart continued to score hits in the ‘80s and ‘90s by diversifying his sound, embracing everything from new wave and disco to soft rock and Motown. In the ‘00s, he switched his attention to the Great American Songbook with a string of hit covers albums. But the likes of 2013’s ‘Time’ and 2019’s ‘Blood Red Roses’ showed that Stewart still knew how to pen an infectious tune too. Hit covers, rousing singalongs
Rod Stewart has showed no signs of slowing down since entering his seventies, hitting the road with Cyndi Lauper for a summer tour in both 2017 and 2018, and then embarking on another tour to support his 30th studio effort, "Blood Red Roses". The latter saw Stewart perform several of his best loved hits in an acoustic style and with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and deliver the odd throwback to his days in The Jeff Beck Group and Faces. Crowds were also treated to more straight-forward renditions of anthems such as "Da Ya Think I’m Sexy", "Maggie May", and "Baby Jane", plus his popular takes on Sam Cooke’s "Twistin’ the Night Away", The Sutherland Brothers’ "Sailing", and Marc Jordan’s "Rhythm of My Heart". Often accompanied by a largely female backing band, Stewart also packs in several costume changes, throws in a handful of entertaining anecdotes about his eventful career and leads a whole host of mass singalongs which ensures each fan leaves the show with a voice almost as raspy as the man himself.
