Iran bans national team players
Never shy of controversy, the Iran football federation has banned two of its most important players before the upcoming Football World Cup. Midfielder Masoud Shojaei and utility player Ehsan Hajsafi both played for Greek side Panionios against Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv in a Europa League qualifier. Iran prohibits its athletes from playing any Israeli side, therefore the two players have banned. We will see how this will affect Iran in 2018 but fans will be rightly worried as Shojaei and Haji Safi would undoubtedly have played a large role for Iran in the Football World Cup.
