Founded in 1927, the team is one of the oldest in Italy and have been in the top-tier of Italy for every year except the 1951-52 season. Roma have won the Serie A three times, the Coppa Italia nine times and the Supercoppa Italiana twice. The club currently share their stadium, the Stadio Olimpico, with city rivals Lazio. The stadium has a capacity of over 72,000 and is the second-largest in Italy behind the San Siro in Milan. AS Roma plan to move into their very own stadium, however, construction has not yet started on the conditionally named Stadio della Roma which is due to open in time for the 2020-21 Serie A season.
Will 2019-20 be AS Roma's season?
Last season, under new manager Eusebio Di Francesco, Roma had another memorable season. Under the Italian's guidance, the team finished 3rd in the Serie A. Ultimately, though, the club still fell short of Northern Italian behemoths and eventual champions, Juventus as well as Southern Italian side Napoli. However, the Champions League run will live long in the memory as Roma completed one of the most incredible footballing comebacks ever. With the side from Rome trailing 4-1 to Lionel Messi's Barcelona after the first leg, the club and fans knew that they needed a miracle to have any hope of progressing. In the second leg, AS Roma produced one of their best ever performances and defeated the Catalan giants 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico, sparking jubilant scenes across the Italian capital. Will this new season contain the same drama and excitement as last season? The question is, can the club keep up their recent good form and push on to win their first Serie A title since 2001. Whatever happens, make sure you're there to see all the drama in person and buy your Roma tickets here at StubHub.
